Q & A with Melissa Mijares
TVAMP: Financial Advising is primarily a male dominated industry… How did you decide it was for you?
MM: I always knew I wanted to have a career where I could help people. Shortly after college, I noticed that there were not many female financial advisors. I was interested in investing, strategic planning, and working directly with my clients so I thought, “Why don’t I become a financial advisor?”
TVAMP: What keeps you motivated?
MM: I am a mother of two young children and I always strive to set a great example for them. As a Wealth Advisor, the relationships I build with my clients keep me motivated and excited to come to work everyday.
TVAMP: What brought you to Knoxville?
MM: We moved to Knoxville from South Florida a little over a year ago. My husband and I wanted to raise our two children in a more wholesome environment. We love the pride of Knoxville residents and respect for the community. It is beautiful here and we love to experience all four seasons! It was such a pleasure watching our kids enjoy their first fall weather and snow this past winter.
TVAMP: What influenced your choice to join our team?
MM: My goals as a Wealth Advisor and the way that I work with my clients is the same as the TVAMP mission: To empower clients to “Live Invested.” I strive to Live Invested, aka “live intentionally,” in my personal and professional life.
TVAMP: When we’re getting to know new clients we ask them about their interests and hobbies… So, tell us about yours!
MM: I am very active in my Catholic faith. We are members at Sacred Heart. I am also involved with Catholic Charities of Knoxville. When I am not at work, I spend as much time as possible with my husband and two children. I am an avid runner so I love that Knoxville has plenty of beautiful running trails.
TVAMP: We know you’ve found your calling as a Wealth Advisor, but is there anything specific you’ve grown to passionate about in the last few years?
MM: A few years into my career, I noticed professional women are in need of financial services. I believe women have a unique set of needs that are not always recognized by many financial advisors. Women have made huge strides in their advancements professionally, while balancing the other things that come with being a wife, mother, and caretaker. I love listening to them and helping them put a long-term financial plan in place so they don’t have to worry about working forever, figuring out the complex financial stuff alone, or making costly financial mistakes. I want to see women – and their families- live a more fulfilled, meaningful life.
TVAMP: Just for fun, what’s on your bucket list?
MM: When my kids are older I would love to visit Europe again. I want my children to experience the history there – in particular Rome, Italy, the Vatican, and the Sistine Chapel.
TVAMP: What is your favorite quote, verse, or personal mantra?
MM: “As for you, be strong and do not slack off, for there shall be a reward for what you do.” 2 Chronicles 15:7
