The Presidential election is over and once again we must focus on not letting emotions dictate investment strategy.
Regardless of which side of the aisle you are on, the temptation to take action based on how markets might react is difficult to ignore.
But what we know (from more years of experience than we care to admit), is that investment decisions based on headlines can be perilous.
Wednesday, November 6th, was a day you didn’t want to miss as an equity investor. Frankly, the last couple of years were not to be missed as the market’s returns were well above average.
Time in the market is far more important than timing the market. Since we simply cannot know what the future holds, we invest in preparedness, not prediction.
This can all be summarized in a few core principles that we have at TVAMP.
There are really “6 Big Levers” in everyone’s financial life;
As is clear from careful consideration, we can control 4 of these levers. We can influence another, and have absolutely no control or influence over the last (the markets).
Therefore, it is most prudent to spend our time working with clients on the levers we control, and leave prediction to the soothsayers and astrologers.
In almost every circumstance, our advice and counsel is to ignore the headlines and focus on what matters most to you.
That’s how to “Live Invested”!
